I read about the Arabia Steam Ship- This was an amazing story, I was interested in the fact that, rivers could shift to the point where it created new land, and that some men who were not experienced in archeology, took their time and money to find a ship which sunk in the . They did not find what they were looking for, but they did accomplish their mission through a tight timeline and harsh weather. That shows that, when someone or a group of people are on 1 accord, anything that they put their minds to can come to past, if they don’t give up.

It blew my mind too and just think there are hundreds more out there 45 feet down and wating for the time capsule to be opened. What a treasure hunt.

Mr. Barrow, LGHS: Randy found listening to those deep southern accents difficult...fell asleep right in the middle of "Finding the Cache". Just kidding. I do think it's interesting how many people actually like to go on these relic treasure hunts. I believe they had a hunt like this a couple of years ago at Nash Farms in Clayton/Henry Co., former home of the Talmadges. They also hold civil war reinactments there. Glad a bomb squad wasn't called in when they found the cache recently.

Now are you ready to listen to the other shows and learn more about history that is not in history books? The one on the Great Locomotive Chase is a fun one for GA history or the Atlanta Crakers.

I listen to a recording about Betty Vandiver. It was very informal because it told me about things that I never knew about. I didnt even know who Ernest Vandiver was but since I listen to the recording I understand that he was of the best governors that I know. It showed me how she felt about everything and her husband being governor.

I listened to the recording about Charles Barrow. I thought it was very interesting, because I didn't know that much about the Korean War. Now I have some knowledge of what the war was about and how it all happened. I didn't think that Charles regretted leaving his brother state-side. His brother bill seemed to enjoy it in San Diego California.

I listened to the one about Charles Barrow too and i thought it was very interesting and nice to hear about how someone went through those experiences and also like Justin i didnt really know anyhting about the Korean War and now i have some knowledge on it.
It was kinda sad though to hear about him treating different people and some of them dying and it was interesting to hear about him traveling on the navy ships.

Justin,
Can you tell me what battle Charles was in and about his LST? Where was his brother stationed? Why did Charles join the Navy in the first place?
Thanks,
Coach Barrow

I thought that the In the Dirt Segment: "Finding the Cache" was very interesting. I thought it was awesome that a guy discovered old Montgomery shells buried under ground from the Civil War. I thought it was pretty cool that when he discovered them he didn't call the bob squad. All the bomb squad would have done was strapped a bomb to the shells to blow them in case they were live.

Something to remember is that ALL history has individual points of views that you can learn from. Just like Mrs. Betty, have you ever thought about how a "1st lady" of any state feels as her husband is going through his term as governor? What does she see and learn? Politics can be fun and cruel, what if they have children? I thin her interview shows us that all people who serve in office are human and have ups and downs. I encourage each of you to try to learn more about a period of time that interests you. Our History Project is here to help you do that, especially with American History. If you are working on a Social Studies project and need some guidance, we are here to lend you a helping hand on reliable sources or giving you more info about the topic. History is fun and better then any reality show or soap opera.

Mr. Barrow
the korean war was fought on June 25, 1950
One of the thing that charles Barrow did that stood out to me was when he was how he went into the navy just to protect his little brother i think that shows great courage and he seems like a great brother because he put his life on the line just to help him out

You are correct about showing courage. Charles Barrow showed us something we don't seldon see today. Do you anybody in our class would do this? By the way, what was his brother's name?
