I have been notified about a re-dedication ceremony of the grave of Irvine Stephens Bulloch, CSN in Liverpool, England on Saturday the 18
July.  The marker was vandalized in 1990, but due to perserverance, it has been restored. Many historical organizations will be present at this event. I will post more information on Irvine Bulloch and his brother James in another post.

As promised I have attached a website about Irvine Bulloch. He had a wonderful sailing carrer witht he Confederate States Navy. You can visit the below site to read more about his life. http://www.csa-dixie.com/liverpool_dixie/irvine.htm

His half-brother, james Bulloch, also has a very distinguished carrer. He was a purchasing agent for the CSN and was able to secure ships for the Navy. It is interesting how he was able to do that. Two of the most famous are the CSS Alabama and CSS Shenandoah. The site has so much information within it, I highly recomend it to anyone looking for more information on the CSA. This is an area I have learned alot about in recent years and love. I think it is exciting these men are being honored in England! If only I could go...... Here is the site. http://www.csa-dixie.com/liverpool_dixie/index.htm

Also, check out the book reviews for a book titled Sea of Gray. It tells the story of the CSS Shenahdoah.

A little clarificationhere for you.
I am Roy Rawlinson, owner of the When Liverpool Was Dixie website.
Originally two UDC gravemarkers were placed at the graves of the bulloch brothers in 2001.
I know this because i cemented them in, courtesy of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
The one from Irvine Stephens grave was stolen, and is to be replaced, at the same time as the cross dedication in July.
I wil be there taking photos for my website, and producing a report also.

As a member of the UDC, I am glad to hear that we are replacing the one that was stolen from Irvine's grave. It is important for these men to be remembered in American history too, even if they are buried in England.

Cassie,
You are correct about remembering them. We have others buried overseas as well. Judah P. Benjamin is buried in Paris I do believe

Yes, the UDC actually marked his grave last year if I remember correctly. His grave was almost forgotten because he was buried in his wife's family plot I believe. It was stumbled upon by accident and Pat Gallagher and Georgia Head from Louisiana went over and place an iron cross and honored Benjamin. He is another fascinating man that gets overlooked in history. Interestingly enough, Benjamin was the first Jew to ever serve in a political position in America, and it was for the Confederacy.

Buried in Europe are the following:-

Buried in Europe

Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin (Paris, France)
Commissioner John Slidell (Paris, France)
Commissioner Ambrose Dudley Mann (Paris, France)
Lieutenant Colonel Ludvig (Louis) Lybecker (Norrtälje, Sweden)
Chaplain John B. Bannon (Dublin, Ireland)
Captain Stephen Winthrop (Painswick, England)
Commander Arthur Sinclair, CSN (Fleetwood, England)
Commander James Dunwoody Bulloch, CSN (Liverpool, England)
Captain JOHN ROWAN (Liverpool, England)
Lieutenant Irvine Stephens Bulloch, CSN (Liverpool, England)
Lieutenant John Low, CSN (Golborne, England)
Captain CHARLES MURRAY (Dunmore, Scotland)
Captain Thomas Jefferson Paige, CSN (Rome, Italy)

Captain Thomas Jefferson Paige incidentally had been due to take over from Raphael Semmes on the Alabama when she docked at Cherbourg in June 1864. Capt Winslow of the Kearsage changed that, however, Paige did Captain the CSS Stonewall ram, built by Bulloch, unfortunately though, the war ended before she arrived in the South.

Do all of these men have markers notating their service to the CSA? Also, there are Confederates buried in Canada, Australia, and Brazil. Alot of people are unaware of that. BYW Von Broke is buried in Polland and just had a dedication at his gravesite.

The event took place on Saturday July 18, and Dixieroy was there with his camera.
The background is that the grave of Lt.Irvine Stephens Bulloch CSN, is in close proximity to that of his brother, Commander James Dunwoody Bulloch.
Irviones grave was vandalised in the 1990`s, and the ctoss was snapped off the plinth.
Liverpool City Council recently had it, and the lettering restored, and this past weekend, the Lord Mayor, a city councillor, and a priest from Bulloch`s own church attended a rededication service.
The UDC supplied a Cross of Honor, and I laids a circular wreath, on their behalf.
Her are a few of my photos.
Roy
The white grave is Irvine`s, with James`s in the background.

Getting there maybe, the local councillor and the mayor stated that there is so much history of the conflict in Liverpool, and the surrounding area, that they are looking at having an annual event!!!!!
Not only were there War re-enactors, but some  cowboy re-enactors acted as flag bearers, and,  indians represented their part in the conflict.

My own favorite photo, as everyone drifted away after the proceeding, the drummer, and one rifleman paid their own respects, standing between the two graves.
I found this single moment to be magical.

I have 50 photos on my site, if you wish to see more, just let me know please,
and remember please, that events like this are VERY rare in the UK.
Even though they may look amateurish, the feelings and thoughts expressed are very sincere.
Thank you
Roy

The bugler is a man called Joh Fairfield.
He was at the 2001 ceremony in Liverpool as well, in a Union uniform that time.
Here is the page with the photos, all 50 LOL

Incidentally, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, has requested that the re-enactors are in his Lord Mayor`s Parade next year.
And both he, and a city councillor, want to make something similar, as there is so much history about this in Liverpool, as an annual event.
I placed the circular wreath, on behalf of the UDC.

I am amazed that this was in ENGLAND! Most people would glance at the pics and assume they are from the US, particularly the South. Please let us know when the annual event might be planned. I would LOVE to go. It just did not work out to where we could be there this year.
